Two Reasons To Use A Bow Stabilizer
Compound bows cost a lot of money but this doesn’t mean that they will work perfectly without the help of a few small accessories. One of those accessories is the bow stabilizer. The purpose of a bow stabilizer is twofold: it adds weight to the bow which helps to keep it balanced properly and it helps to absorb vibration to prevent both noise and hand shock.
When the bowstring of a high-powered compound bow is released a lot of energy is unleashed. Most of that force is transferred to the arrow as it is propelled out from the bow. But there is still a lot of energy that isn’t transferred to the arrow and this also looks for a way to leave the bow. Whatever is attached to the bow is the most likely place for that force to be transferred to and without a bow stabilizer the only other thing attached to the bow is the hand of the shooter. Bow stabilizers dissipate the shock of the string release before it can reach the archer’s hand.
There are different types of bow stabilizers for sale depending on what type of archery you will be doing. Target shooting requires stabilizers that are on the longer side while bows that are to be used for hunting are generally equipped with shorter stabilizers.
The longer a bow stabilizer is the more accurate it is going to be and this is why a target shooter will use a bow stabilizer that is longer than 2 feet. Hunters, on the other hand, who are on the move through dense undergrowth will not want anything attached to their bow that might snag as they are moving.
For a quieter and more accurate compound bow it is a good idea to consider putting a bow silencer on it. It doesn’t have to be a particularly long one to still give you enormous benefits.
