A candlelight wedding is infused with romance and elegance, and creates a magical setting for exchanging your vows.  However, a lot of careful planning is needed to get it right. Here are some tips that will help you create the perfect candlelit setting for your wedding.

  • First and foremost, you need to notify the manager of the wedding venue of your intention to use candles and get approval for it.
  • Alert your photographer and videographer about the use of candles at the wedding venue so that they can make the necessary technical adjustments to ensure that visibility is not compromised.
  • Take necessary precautions to prevent a potential fire hazard. Ensure that all candles are firmly anchored in their holders. Keep lighted candles away from drafts and any fabrics.
  • You can use candles to enhance the wedding reception décor in many ways. Placing candles at the reception tables creates a romantic mood right from the outset. You can also consider placing candelabras at the front of the wedding venue and on windowsills.  Floating tea light candles can also be used to great effect for creating a magical aura. Or try pillar candles which can be placed in groups to make attractive centerpieces.
  • Be sure that you know the length of the candles’ burn time, lest their lighting fades before the event is over. Get the information from the manufacturer or, if need be, do your own testing.
  • It is best to steer clear of scented candles which may detract from the smell of your flowers. They may also affect the taste and fragrance of the food being served. Also ensure that the candles you are using at the food serving tables do not drip wax and cause a mess.

With some creativity and care, you are ready to make your dream of a candlelight wedding reality.  Beautiful yet versatile, candles provide a marvelous way to add a touch of magic to your wedding.
