The Purpose of the Wedding Cake
You almost always see a wedding cake in weddings and you might be wondering why. The reason is because the cake is a symbol of the couple and their vow for a life together in good times or in bad. Human tradition around the world also calls for a cake, and this practice has been passed down from generation to generation. These are some of the reasons for the cake’s prominent place in wedding receptions. If you are planning a ceremony this should not be viewed as needing one more thing for the big day, but rather, having one is a delight and beautiful symbol for both the couple and the guests.
First and foremost, the cake is used for the couple’s cake cutting ceremony which symbolizes their new life together and sharing their lives going forward. This part of the reception is fairly impossible without this special dessert. Another use of the cake other than it being a display, is to serve its original purpose, to be eaten and enjoyed by the guests. One way of elegantly doing this is by using wedding cake bags (or boxes, it depends on your particular theme and desire). Once the reception has adjourned, you can start giving out slices of the cake and putting them into bags. This way, the guests who may not be able to linger for the length of the party will still have a literal “piece” of the celebration to bring home with them as part of the sharing with family and friends.
Since it holds such an important place in the ceremony, it only makes sense to have wedding cake pictures taken by your photographer, this is especially true when the cake is very well designed or a custom design. You can have the pictures developed as keepsakes for your guests to remember this day. If you plan on doing this, you should probably think about having your guests stand beside the cake before taking a picture! If used in this manner, this symbol serves more than just dessert. It serves multiple purposes. I’m sure you can see the value that it can bring to you special day.
As we discussed above, the wedding cake has many purposes in a wedding ceremony. Having one respects tradition. It also serves as a reminder of the day’s significance to the newlywed couple. It serves as a unique decoration, and edible food art for the guests. At the end of the day, its purpose is to give you the most special wedding day possible.
