The Primary Rules of Karaoke

If you were to walk into a karaoke bar and demand to sing a song while treating the staff rudely, you would not be met with a warm reception. While most people have enough common sense not to do this, they often break other rules of karaoke etiquette that are regarded just as seriously. It may take a while to understand the complete inner workings of a karaoke bar as the rules have been built up over years of trial and error. Each place is different and populated by varying casts of characters who dominate their respective territories. But in general, there are some unwritten rules that all karaoke fans follow, and you would do well to learn them before trying to sing for the first time.

Don’t laugh. It might be tempting to howl at a person who is having a hard time, but would you like it if people did that to you? You should never mock, heckle, or demean any person who gets up on that stage, and you will surely appreciate it when other people pay you that basic courtesy.

No drunken karaoke. You might need a few drinks to build up your courage, but drunken karaoke should be avoided at all costs. It’s not fun to watch and chances are you will end up regretting it.

Respect the karaoke machine. Club karaoke systems are expensive pieces of equipment and you should treat it as your own. So that means no shouting into the karaoke microphone or leaning your drinks on the karaoke machine top.

Here’s a tip. Just as you would in any restaurant, you should make sure to tip the staff and the karaoke DJ. These people depend on tips to make a living and they don’t cater to your demands and requests for the fun of it.

Be patient. If you don’t get a chance to sing then don’t make a big fuss. Not everyone gets to use the karaoke machine and that’s something everyone must understand. Have a good time regardless of your singing experience and come back to try again in the future. More tips on the karaoke lifestyle can be found at http://karaokemachineguide.com/.
