Don’t be like Bill. Who is Bill? Bill is anyone who is experiencing depression hurts. It could be the guy sitting next to you in the bus; or your office mate. Bill could represent your brother or parent; or be your spouse or even your child.
The story of Bill was one of someone who was enjoying the benefits of a successful life until it all fell apart because of a broken relationship. The thing is, the relationship was not even marital but that of a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship. This means it was something that could have gone either way. Yet, Bill could not handle the change, and he became severely depressed. His depression hurts lead him to commit suicide.
The sad part after his death was that Bill’s depression lead to his mother’s depression, his father and ex-girlfriend developing new fears, and his sibling being taunted in school. It was a domino effect that turned the lives of several others.
Sadly, it could have been prevented if someone saw the signs of depression. We live in a world full of stress and anxiety, and this can make it more difficult to recognize the depression symptoms. Nevertheless, if you care for a person, it should go to the point where any negative changes in their lives should be talked about, at the very least.
By knowing the signs of depression, you can help. They are sleeping disorders, eating disorders (too much or too little eating), fatigue without even doing much physical activities, mood swings, disinterest in anything, distraction, lack of concentration, and even difficulty in smiling or laughing.
Be a true friend. Be a caring family member. It will take patience, perseverance, and love. However, you can save a person from severe depression hurts and make life better in the process for that person and yourself.
