When one is charged with a felony, he or she will most likely be held in the custody of local law enforcement. The feelings of someone in such a situation lead them to believe that there is no way out regardless of their innocence. Felonies are considered serious crimes that involve punishment of one year or more and in some cases the death penalty. Sentences vary throughout the states in both severity and length. There are also many other ways that a defense attorney can assist someone who is guilty of a felony. Regardless of guilt, a good attorney is essential if when one has been charged with a felony.
