Prevention Is Better Than Cure, Especially In Acid Reflux



GERD, as Gastroesophageal reflux disease is clinically known, is a common condition that can affect anyone across all ages. Although most people take it lightly as a condition they can live with, it can actually have very serious complications of it is not prevented or treated in good time. Some of the adverse effects of acid reflux are corrosion in the teeth, esophageal cancer, loss of appetite and rapid weight loss. In order to avoid all these, a patient must find ways to prevent or minimize the occurrence of the condition. Although there are tons of medicinal acid reflux remedies that claim to treat acid reflux, these are not permanent solutions to the problem but rather medicinal solution to quell the symptoms.

It is best to prevent acid reflux rather than wait to treat it. You have to first understand that acid reflux happens for three reasons: excessive acidity in the stomach, weak LES muscles and too much pressure in the stomach. Depending on what could be triggering the condition in a patient’s case, it is possible to prevent acid reflux by changing lifestyle, eating habits and behavior in general, especially after meals. There are tons of home remedies that can be used to reduce acidity in the stomach but since the stomach needs the acids to digest food, it is recommended that reduction of acidity be kept at minimum.

A good acid reflux diet involves eating food that is of less acidic value, fatty and fried food, greasy and junk food, fruit salads especially those with tomatoes and acidic fruits like oranges and pineapples. Other than that, how you eat also matters a lot in that most cases of acid reflux are caused by digestion problems when a person eats too much food in one seating, causing pressure pileup in the stomach, failing to drink sufficient water and improper postures after meals.
