HP + A3 = A+

let’s first go over price. The HP Officejet Pro K8600 has a list price of $364. However, you can find it on many online sites for as low as $300. At the present time, Amazon even has a few new units available for only $220. And if you’re really into saving money, there are also used units selling for $190. It would probably be worthwhile to spend the extra $30 and not have to worry about damage to the machine, but that’s up to you. Either way, you will receive free shipping if you live in the United States.

Now let’s get to some stats and features. Print resolution on the HP Officejet Pro K8600 can reach as high as 1200 x 1200 dots per inch, which is standard for an a3 inkjet. When it comes to speed, it can print up to 35 pages per minute, whether black and white or color. This is well above average and adds considerable value. The K8600 has a 250-sheet capacity, which is good, but not great for this type of printer. There is also a USB interface, but no wireless options.

The black ink cartridge for this machine should last around 2400 pages and the color ink cartridge should last for approximately 1700 pages. Compared to other machines, both cartridges offer very good mileage. The machine itself is durable and should last several years. While it just started selling in February of 2009, not one reviewer has mentioned a non-functional unit. Many have stated that their units are running as good as new. A final advantage for the K8600 is that its max paper size is 11 x 17 inches. The only negative, which is a negative for any HP product, is that customer service/technical support is sub-par.
