Finding PC2700 laptop memory
Looking for laptop memory shouldn’t be that tough, particularly if you have the most popular style of RAM out there: PC2700 memory. PC2700 has become one fo the most standard and widely manufactured types of laptop memory since the inception of the notebook itself. This type of DDR SDRAM will make your laptop fly, let me tell you; this is due to the fact that DDR allows the memory to handle two data streams at once, effectively doubling the data transfer rate through the stick of RAM. What that means is that you’ll see a higher amount of speed through a single stick of PC2700 DDR than you would from a non-DDR stick of the same capacity. Pretty neat, huh?
PC2700 memory is actually one of the newer types of DDR that has hit the market since DDR became available. The first iteration of SDRAM was of course the very popular PC1600. This had a 1600 MB/s data transfer rate, which was more suited for the laptops at the time (roughly 1996). Those laptops, with their slower processing speeds, were boosted quite a bit by the advent of this type of SDRAM. Shortly thereafter came PC2100 memory, which found its way into some of the newer laptops that came out in the early 2000s. This turned out to be a smash hit as well, with many major manufacturers turning to PC2100 over the PC1600 variety of RAM. After several years PC2700 hit the shelves; this of course has been improved to PC3200, but PC3200 isn’t widely available on laptops that are older than a couple years old.
Where can you find PC2700? Just about anywhere, to be honest. If you have a Best Buy in the area there’s a good chance they’ll have it; if not, look for a Fry’s Electronics or look online at sites like Amazon. You’ll find great deals there!
