Effects of Plastic Surgery
Even though plastic surgery is now affordable, it still carries its own list of risks like any other surgery procedures. Those who are not happy or contented with their physical appearance and want to undergo plastic surgery must also be prepared for the positive effects, as well as the negative ones. Aside from the financial strain, there are a lot of physical, emotional and psychosocial effects it can bring or develop.
One of the effects that may not arise until after the surgery is nerve damage. This causes a feeling of numbness, but does not usually last long. It can cause death of the tissue, which is also known as necrosis. This is commonly happens to smokers because of delayed healing time and the risks with anesthesia. Other problems that may arise are it can cause excessive bleeding and bruising. The capillaries on the skin are being touched thus bruising and swelling appear almost immediately after the surgery. It can cause seroma in which fluids are being collected under the skin. To avoid this, surgeons place tubes that serve as drainage in the incisions.
Getting a scar after a surgical procedure is the most common effect that is known to everyone but there are some surgeons who are skilled in preventing and hiding unwanted scars. The surgeon must be aware of the healing capacity of the patient’s body. Reaction to medication and anesthesia is also one of the effects of plastic surgery. This risk is exactly the same as the risk from other surgical operations.
Emotionally and psycho socially, this surgery has many effects. Usually, patients are too excited to get the end result which is sometimes unrealistic and if it does not come out as expected can lead to another surgery, depression, anger, regret, social isolation, family arguments and sometimes destructive behaviors. It is always better to do thorough research before deciding whether to undergo plastic surgery or just leave that unwanted appearance the way it is. There could be effects that you might not be prepared to handle.
