Drug Addiction Treatment Center

When a person reaches the stage in their lives when they realize that their drug addiction has become completely out of control they may consider entering a drug addiction treatment center. Doing this takes courage and the person should be admired for giving it a chance. Rehabilitation is not easy but can be accomplished if the person is determined to over the addiction problem and they want a new style of life badly enough.

Seeking treatment for a drug addiction is the first step to recovery. Most times this comes late in the stages of drug addiction. The person may have hit rock bottom by losing their job, their loved ones and any trace of normalcy in their daily life. There are basically three places an addict can end up. One is that they get better, one is jail or prison and the other is dead due to an accidental overdose.

Drug addiction is a disease, and this is how it will be looked upon and treated at an alcohol addiction treatment center. Getting rid of the addiction is only part of the rehabilitation. Learning how to have new thought processes is a must, along with realizing that there is a better life that does not include abusing drugs. These issues will be addressed repeatedly at the treatment center.

When the person arrives at the treatment center there will be counselors available at all times. The client may be asked to sign several forms that include everything from issues regarding payment or insurance policy numbers, to agreeing on paper to follow the rules at the center. Most normally a blood or urine sample is taken to see which, if any drugs may still be in the system. The client is most normally checked by a resident physician to make sure there are no other health problems.

Once the program starts a slow detoxification process may begin along with group meetings, one on one counseling sessions and regular check-ups with a doctor. Every aspect of rehabilitation is addressed. Exercise including walking or a team sport may be used, along with the center providing healthy and nutritious meals and snacks.

I attended AA group meetings every week and had a sponsor, but I never completed my step exercise after treatment. At 5 years sober I relapsed for a short-term time. I recall the turning stage that got me back to recovery. When I seen that I could no longer tell myself that “nobody would know” … because I had sufficient recovery in me that * I * was no longer NOBODY and *I* would know! I had gained enough self worth in my years of sobriety that I could no longer reckon myself a NOBODY. THAT was pivotal.
